Plan Your Trip to Korea [Part 1] Flight & Accommodation in Seoul
I’m going to share you with guys how I plan my upcoming Korea trip and what are the reference website!
I’m going to Korea with my BFF in this end of Oct to early Nov, I have almost done with the itinerary!
Although this is not my first time to Korea, the previous 2 trips I wasn’t involved in the itinerary planning..
So now I have to do all the research and search for new places of interest for us to explore!
1. Air Tickets
Flying to Seoul isn’t really cheap for direct flight, for SQ without promotion and go up to 1300SGD for 2-way return flight.
For Korea Air or Asiana, usually their 2-way return air ticket cost between 800++SGD to 1000++ SGD, depends on the period and availability.
Alternatively, we can go for transiting flight, Air Asia the budget airline that flies to Seoul, transiting in KL. My first trip to Seoul in this year March, I took Air Asia with my friends. We bought it during their promotion which cost only 400++SGD for 2-way return flight. Super great deal! But getting their promotion price you have to book way early at least 8 months or 1 year before.. You have to grab and plan early for your holidays!
Without promotion, Air Asia normal 2-way return flight can cost up to 800++SGD which is not very worth it, with a $100 or $200 top up you can go for a direct flight already.
Another better option of transiting flight which I took before was Cathay Pacific. Fly to Seoul and transit in Hong Kong. During my Super Show 4 Trip in May, I fly via Cathay. It’s the cheapest air tickets I can found through zuji.com.sg cost around 740SGD for 2-way return flight.
Of course taking transiting flight is more economic but it will takes a longer time for you to reach your destination, at least 1 to 2 hours extra compare to direct flight.
I love to check my air ticket prices through zuji.com.sg! Zuji able to provide you list of flights that fly to your destination and you can have a glance at one go! Which is the cheapest air fare and best timing. Sometimes the price that Zuji offers is much more cheaper than you book directly through the airline website!
For my upcoming Korea trip, I managed to book SQ flight at 763SGD nett during their promotion in August, its actually a great steal from SQ as their usual air tickets to Seoul cost at least 1300SGD!
After you have booked your air tickets, now its time to look for accommodation!
Do some homework first before you really decide where you want to stay in Seoul and what type of accommodation, guest house? or Hotels?
The most popular area where tourists will stay in Seoul will be Myeongdong.
Myeongdong is the famous shopping district in Seoul where you can find lots of Cosmetics & Skin Care outlets, restaurants and apparel shops!
There’s quite a number of Guest Houses & Hotels in Myeongdong, so which and how to choose?
For me, I will ask opinions from my friends who been to Seoul before and ask them to recommend me the guest house and hotel they stayed.

The most affordable accommodation in Seoul will be Guest Houses, most of the guest houses there are quite well maintained with well equipped amenities like attached bathroom in each room, air-conditional, Free wifi, LCD TV, hair dryer etc…
After take note of my friends recommendation, I will go tripadvisor and search for the reviews & traveller photos of the guest house or hotel.
Tripadvisor is a very useful reference tool for travelling especially sourcing for hotels! Travellers will review the hotel they stayed and upload the real pictures of the rooms they took during their stay!
Most of the hotels love to cheat on us of the beautiful photo-shop room pictures, when we enter the room its totally different from the hotel website pictures!
I’m very particular in hotel rooms, especially cleanliness! I can’t stand dirty bedsheet and toilet!
So before I really book the hotel, I will go to tripadvisor and read through and reviews and photos!
My first trip to Seoul, we stayed in this guest house named IB Ville. It’s located near Myeongdong!
5 minutes walk to Myeongdong subway station and 8 minutes to Myeongdong shopping district.
Room is clean and spacious! 3 of us shared 1 room with 3 single bed and attached bath room.

For my SS4 Encore Trip, I did not source and decide the hotel myself, cause we booked through SMTown Travel, its a 3D2N package together with the concert tickets.
At first, I was quite worried that they will provide us with an old and rundown hotel, lucky its not!
The hotel they provide us was Lexvill Residence located near Sinchon subway station, 8 minutes walk to the station. It’s not very near to the shopping areas like Myeongdong, Dongdaemun need at least 30-40 minutes to travel there. But its near to Lotte World & COXE Mall.
Lexvill Residence each room is well-equipped with mini kitchen, washing machine and attached bathroom! If you planning for a long stay, this hotel is recommended! The hotel is relatively new and very clean! Bed is comfortable, LCD cable TV with lots of TV channels, air-conditioning is new able to adjust the temperature well!
I couldn’t find their website in the web, maybe have to search with their Korean Hotel Name.
But no worries, if you are interested you can book through various hotel website like agoda.com.
Talking about agoda.com its a trustworthy hotel booking website I going to recommend to you guys!
agoda.com allows us to cancel our hotel booking with any cancellation fees! But of course cannot be too last minute, they don’t charge us any cancellation fee if we cancel the booking 3 days before check in.
My upcoming trip, I didn’t book hotels near Myeongdong area. Cause in Myeongdong affordable accommodation are mainly guest houses (we decided not to stay guest house for this trip) and hotels over there are not really value for money.
After looking through tripadvisor.com.sg, various blogs and agoda.com. I have decided to choose this hotel in located in Yeoksam-dong (Gangnam) area, Tria Hotel.
Gangnam area is a business district area where lots of high rise office buildings over there.
Tria Hotel is located near Yeoksam subway station, around 8 minutes walk.
I booked the hotel through agoda.com 😀 I will review it after I got back from trip.
